The good old days

As I get older and older, I find myself remembering my boyhood days. I'm gifted with an exceptional memory, remembering all the way back to about 2 years old.

I remember many things; but among the fondest memories are the ones growing up on the north edge of Harlingen, Texas. We did things then that would be considered absolutely forbidden these days.

We went fishing (even though we couldn't swim and didn't even know what a lifejacket was).

We hunted with slingshots, spears, bow and arrow, and even guns. We built cannons and made black powder to fire them. In fact, we pioneered the method used nowadays to make some of those spectacular movie explosions.

Strange thing was, nobody ever got seriously hurt while we were doing those things. One of our group drowned...while on vacation with his family; but that was in a supervised situation. Mostly, the worst things were minor cuts, bruises, and skinned knees from falling off our bikes.

More on this later, and I will be setting up a new blog over at Granddad's Place just for these memories.
