Burnout!

The potential for burnout (mental exhaustion) exists in almost every walk of life. Much more has been made of it in reference to the medical profession; but it can happen to just about anyone.

In fact, I drive a truck, hauling freight; and I have reached the point where I know that I am burned out. I get up in the morning, feeling as if I had had no sleep. I manage to get through the day; but I come home totally exhausted, even if I had no runs. My love life has become more a mental thing than physical.

I try to build websites, hoping to get off the road; but my mind feels as though it was wrapped in cotton batting.

Old injuries that hardly ever bothered me before now require 600mg of ibuprofen to allow me to move.

That's definitely burnout; but I am not in a position to change any factors that cause it. I need a vacation; but wouldn't get paid for the time, because I'm a subcontractor. I've considered changing jobs; but my age is a factor, there.

Don't let it happen to you! Plan ahead, and save for a vacation. If you are allowed personal days off, take them. Limit your obligations to other people. Find time for yourself. Above all, rest!
